Oh distractions. I cannot lie.  When it comes to to-do lists and checklists, I make them, but they’re never in an organized fashion.  I waste my time being distracted, so much so that I believe it is a disorder, it is chronic distraction, a real, very real problem.  I have all the good intent, but somewhere along the road when I have or am gaining momentum, I run amok and self-sabotage my efforts.  This happens through distractive impulses.  It’s like I can’t help it!

What happens is the priorities in my mind instantly get shuffled when a thought enters, a curiosity passes through nabbing my attention and without even thinking, I oblige it.  I satiate many of these thought impulses by following through, like looking up a question on Google, going to a store, leaving the room to look in another room.  It’s like the nagging is too much and since I know I can satisfy it if I act on it immediately, then I just do so.  Where’s the harm?

A dance of distractions.  A dance of avoidance, because it seems so hard to just sit for a moment, unfurl and give in to one task.  All I need is enough focus for one task.  But it is such a struggle.  And the struggle is real my friends.

It’s incredible how much distractive habits can get the better of you.  Like pulling the lever over and over at the slot machine, waiting for the next combo of items to pop up and anticipating that satisfying winning feeling.  If the feeling doesn’t come right away, that’s ok, I’m on my ass anyways, might as well do another round, again, what’s the harm?

The chemicals are real and they want to steal my brain juice!

Amazing how much focus a distraction can steal.  Why is that? Why do all the click bait, Google searches, pacing around distractives get all the attention? Instant gratification.  The very fact that we get addicted to plugging into those sweet sweet dopamine centres (see what I did there? I inserted a link for you to go on a tangent and read more therefore encouraging this distractive habit).

We are forever chasing the next fix.  Or are we running from boredom and responsibility? Feeling itchy and unsettled with the quiet.  Feeling anxious to be with our own thoughts and unconnected to the world.  Anxious about missing out and getting that instant feedback.  Notifications are crack and for people like me that don’t get out much and connect with humans that often, it can be lethal.

There is definitely something to it all….

At least I can say I’m self aware.  I am very aware of this situation and I am trying to get myself out of the pickling that I throw myself into.

There are moments where I’ll get up and feel and see the environment around me and how big it is.  Like waking up and realizing there is still a world that’s real that surrounds my physical being.  It’s a breath of fresh air and sometimes literally when I’m able to drag myself outside.

Without further talk about distractions, to which I could run many tangents on and thoughts on – all the puns intended.  I bring you another episode of Goreblot fortunes. This time brought to you by the lovely stages of rosemary steeped in water.

Emergence.  Particle.  Immerse yourself into new depths.  You are discovering you have come to a point where you can really spread out and test your skills.  Question your limits and what limits you have set upon yourself.  Begin again with new defying wonder and curiosity of the simple ingredients that already exist in your cupboard.

Take your mind to new magics and new possibilities.  Awaken and explore.  You are as ready as a stream of cream becoming a huge cloud in it’s new coffee home.

At first, the simple space and freedom seems daunting, but you will find your edges. You will reach the perfect fit.  It just takes that first drip, that first drizzle or pour and then you open up the floodgates to a new world.

There’s the sense sometimes that unexplored territory is still somehow, somewhat familiar, yeah? Perhaps you explored it so much with your mind that physically going there was just making it more solid for you.

Perhaps this is why it took so long to initiate, you having visited this place so many times before with your mind.  You visited and explored all the angles so many times with your mind’s eye.

This is your time to initiate the real.  Begin and initiate beyond the spark of an idea.  Set into motion and explore and create.  Experiment and toy with the depths.  There is no losing in this action, only gaining such things as perspective, momentum and most certainly, insight.

So take a moment and rise above. Here’s your song to jam to for the coming weekend and week.

We are such romantics sometimes when it comes to our expectations. We dream up situations and how its all going to go down. We anticipate the following steps to our one step. It’s exciting. Anticipation is the best feeling even before the final result as you get to imagine, excitedly, what is to come next.

Perhaps, not all situations are exciting. There’s the possibility that the delicate balance of excite can tip into anxiousness and nervousness. Notice at what point does it tip? Where does the excitement end and the anxiety begin? As if to say you can’t allow yourself the luxury of happy anticipation. It has to come crashing down with worry because the world has so many factors that could make it go wrong.

You find yourself suspended, blocked and paralyzed. You no longer want to anticipate happily, instead you default to crunching into a ball and biting your nails, drinking alcohol, or curling back into bed. All those succulent coping mechanisms come swirling in to soothe.

Why is anticipation so worrisome? At what point did you switch? The expectations then become external and you project them on what you think others expect from you. Soon your whole world becomes this one big demand on top of more demands but still nothing has budged.

So this is a call to reel (or real) yourself back in. Centre yourself and ground yourself with tangibles. Turn off your expectation projections and remind yourself of the joys of not knowing. Allow your future self to handle it however it is going to happen. And really see your present self in the process, getting lost in the steps and enjoying what is, no care of future expectations and bombardments because you know you have yourself covered. Right now.

Deep and glandular. The process has been seen through to this beautiful age. You can finish here whatever you have started. There is something really satisfying in following your process. Tracking each accomplished step, marking it and charting it.

Each step was satisfaction because you remained curious and open the entire time. There may have been some uncomfortable struggles, but you knew that was part of it, you’ve been there before. Uncomfortable struggles are what make us learn and grow. If we were comfortable all the time, we’d end up a potato, brain and organs, all potato.

Just remember this accomplishment, whether small or big. Take note, in fact, of all your triumphs. Spin a true tale of yourself when the going gets rough and do not let yourself slip into the trines of negative self-talk habits. You have the power to spin things around. You have worked hard and no one should have the power to take that away from you.

No one knows your history like you do.

Often times after seeing a project through to completion, there are stages of celebration and then stages of grievances. After the initial achievement, there is the inevitable come down from that high. It is imperative not to let the down define you or shake you out of your solid grounding and the foundation that you created for yourself. There is now more significant evidence and proof that you are capable and your endeavours are worthwhile.

Remember that. You are worthwhile and what you have done is something to celebrate and you have the power to continue on to the next adventure. Accept your brilliance, stand back and admire it from another angle. If you should ever forget or find the tug of negative habit, make a list of things that bring you up. Put up a visible reminder of things that you’ve accomplished and all your wonderful traits.

If you have photos, put those up. Anything to shine your capabilities to the stars and remind you of your power, your strength. It is in you and you have done it. Celebrate that, well done!

Happy Friday everyone! Here is the latest instalment of Goreblot’s Fortune Friday. I. Desire for acceptance. Need for affirmation. Longing for attention, or longing to find your tribe. Listen to the issues and struggles you keep banging your head against. Be aware of growth in stillness. Ground your feet into the earth. How can you deal with the issues that keep coming up? The answers are always there, its just a matter of sitting still for long enough and listening to them. ~An excellent phrase I got from one of my Yogi Tea bags (yes, silly tea bags have messages too), “Share your strengths, not your weaknesses.” ~
What’s your story that you keep telling people? Or what’s the story you keep telling yourself? How can you spin it to make it feel good for you? Embellish it, make it into a grand mythos. Branch out of your organ meat. Tell a tall tale authentic to you and/or of authentic you. You can only get authentic for yourself. To start, look at the beginning, maybe find a catch phrase, create an intro, paint a beautiful picture of the scenes that are glued together with you gliding along in them. Represent yourself strongly and you will come off as strong and most importantly, you will feel strong. Puff up your chest proudly to the sky. Now’s not the time to be apologetic of what you have to offer. And don’t be apologetic of who you are and what you do. Offer a ridiculous smile that will infect anyone who dare make eye contact with you.

II. The skinny vs. fat episode. How one projects their own set of problems on another. Jealousy of what someone assumably is endowed with. What cultural tags go on certain body types. It’s quite the obsession. That feeling that the other person has it easy or somehow is priveleged. A skinny body means fuck all, just as a fat body means fuck all – it’s culturally wrapped in stigma, and distaste, but ultimately it’s up to you to decide how much you want to internalize it’s functions (the labels). Being one or the other should not reflect you as a person. If you are focusing on and negating a body type because you feel you’ll never be like that, you are amplifying and reinforcing these culturally input stigmas and stereotypes, you are feeding into that system and you are reinforcing it into yourself so that it becomes this block. Projections will bounce off each other, you project your assumption onto others openly, the energy of that gets passed around in one big fucking circle jerk. The point is, everybody has their own set of issues of what brought them to where they are. A body shape is only one aspect to a person’s life, it’s not an entire translation, unless that is the person’s entire focus for the rest of their life. Assumptions about appearance will always be there. I encourage you to try to get past the stickiness of it. There’s more to a person than just their appearance. A whole history, a set of situations and a slew of characteristics streaming in their bloodline which got them to where they are, which got them here to where they are today. If you could look at someone’s entire journey, you’ll see it took them a set of their own unique challenges and set of circumstances to get where they are and to realize it. Don’t fall into the trap of comparison. Importance in these issues is coming forward in sharing, being open and honest with yourself and others and your own abilities and if you’re unhappy, look at what adjustments would help you on your journey. Instead of focusing on what makes you unhappy, focus on your own unique challenges and be humble about them. Your challenges are yours and no one can recognize them but you. You have something really cool and awesome to weave in your web of discoveries about your self. See that and own it.

III. Passion lost. Directionless, no affirmations or inspiration of where to go. Little to no give. Apathetic. What do? It’s a continuous battle to strive or even want to strive for something when there’s no play, no site goal, no encouragement or anything to pump forward. In these times, it’s pertinent to find something that will stick you to progression. It’s easy to forget drive when there’s no vehicle around to steer. So, let me inspire you to find that vehicle. Try getting out and dancing, singing, draw or paint, focus on finding somewhere to play. You haven’t just let yourself play in a while have you? When was the last time you just let loose? And I’m talking about just letting yourself go, allowing yourself some silliness without the fuss of have to’s and perfection. Balance is key to remembering passion or finding passion. Look at the pyramid of Mind, Body, Spirit – all three need to be present in order to navigate life harmoniously. If you’re lacking in one aspect, for instance, you’re body is strong but your mind is weak, find a way to give your mind a workout. Train yourself up. Often times when you start throwing yourself into an aspect that is out of balance, the other aspects can also strengthen with it. Your spirit is low? maybe working on something physical will bring you back to some awareness, bring you back into your mind. It’s no lie when people say they need to go for a run to clear their heads, there really is something to it. Find something to plunge yourself into, even if the other aspects are kicking and screaming, everything will eventually teeter to a balancing point. And if you stumble, that’s alright, because that is part of the process. So allow yourself play, allow yourself to orient yourself to building new skill sets too. Play brings discovery, find out what you can discover simply by giving it a go 😉

Goreblot Fortune Friday Featuring The Gloomth and the Cult of Melancholy!

For this coming fortunes I asked my friend Taeden from Gloomth to provide the words. Last week I was on a bit of a hiatus, honestly needing a sorting out of myself as I constantly do, and concocting what to do next with Goreblots. There’s some exciting stuff happening with Gloomth as of late and I feel lucky to be close friends with such a strong creative gal as I get to have a little inside scoop before things are released. So in case you aren’t familiar with Gloomth, they are an alternative lolita brand of clothing. I say alternative because it doesn’t necessarily have to be ‘goth’ or full on lolita. What’s great about Gloomth clothing is you can integrate your own style with the pieces and make your own unique personal brand that expresses you or perhaps one of your alter egos or characters.

It’s a challenge to be different, especially when it comes to sticking out fashion wise. And what I constantly learn and get reminded of from Gloomth and the other weirdos I know, is to be comfortable doing you whatever that entails. For me, it’s an interesting mixture of trying out different outfits that don’t necessarily blend in with the norm, to sometimes wanting to be invisible depending on the day. When I actually do get into outfit making mindfully, I feel my day or evening has more of a sense of purpose and intention to it. Choosing clothing really is like choosing your own uniform, especially if you have the luxury of wearing whatever you want to your job. Even within the guidelines, there’s always a way to slip in your uniqueness. When you wear something that feels right to you, it’s fun, and it feels awesome and overall, don’t you just feel like you are in your own more? Powerful even?

Yea. You’ve got the power, so don’t forget to embrace that.

Goreblot Fortune Friday with Harley R. Pageot

Short brief intro – This week I asked my friend Harley R. Pageot to provide the words and music for this week’s paintomancy instalment. I met Harley back in 2010/11 when I was graduated from OCAD and trying to find my way as an artist. I came across an ad somewhere online about submitting poster art to this group called Broken Arts. Harley was a co-founder of the group, but ultimately became the leader and very well organized organizer of all it’s events. After doing my first poster for them, I somehow got integrated into being a member of the group and started going to meetings and helping out at the events. I am so warmed to have been a part of that movement, being a part of the creative music scene in Oshawa and to be a part Broken Arts. Serious lasting connections were made and I am so thankful to have met the people I did through that time.

1. Nonchalant. Hey smooth sailor, you’ve been here before haven’t you? Strutting around like nothing effects you or affects you. That’s ok. However, preventative measures are never a bad thing and the minor embarrassment it might cause you far outweighs the dire circumstances of something left uncaught. What runs in the family genetically is something you may want to pay attention to and don’t be naive into thinking that it does not effect you and that you are above that. It’s ok to be afraid of truths, afraid of facts, but don’t get caught up in what it means. Sickness does not make you a weak person, but denial however, will make you sicker. You deny and ignore any bits of information that might be useful to you, you’re just going to delay something that might need more immediate attention. It’s up to you ultimately what you decide, but what is dignity but a mere social stance, an image we try to bear to hide a weakness or a vulnerability. We love to idolize others so much and in turn we wish for ourselves to have that same sort of treatment. To make a mark. But how much of it matters, how much of yourself are you sacrificing on this principle? What are you putting off to check because you are afraid of a little embarrassment? What are you afraid of facing or admitting to? Now, I would bet that digging into these seemingly uncomfortable places, investigating, would be very beneficial right now and that letting go of an idea of how you hold yourself in some regard will be the hardest thing to do. Ultimately, letting go of that already shifting idea, I bet will be really freeing for you. Take a chance, you’re only a human meat sack after all. *wink*

So much hate bubbling inside, your teeth grind at something and you may not even notice. You are under the grind of doing what you think you should, wearing that layer thin, taking in empty, nutrient-less waste. Hate feelings then turns into desperate tears, like trying to run on empty fuel, the energy sputters out what’s left is a release, a mad cry, a wondrous waterfall. My dear, be kind to yourself. Know what you are feeding yourself and what’s harming you. What belief systems are you adhering to that’s making your jaw clench? what foods are you eating that’s lacking colour and nutrients? Lastly, what are you taking in from social media, your social networks that is not serving you? For the good of your health, let it go.
